Electronic Government

Electronic government (eGovernment) is a critical component of the Government's modernisation agenda to radically alter communications between the general public and all local authorities.

eGovernment provides:

  • improved access to services
  • customer choice and convenience
  • single point of contact for all services
  • provision of joined up services across partner organisations
  • encouragement of ‘excluded’ groups
  • support and encouragement to use facilities

The local authorities within Shropshire adopted a collaborate approach to electronic government by setting up an 'Implementing Electronic Government Partnership' (IEG Partnership). The partnership has an eVision which states that:

"Citizens of Shropshire will be able to transact any business pertaining to any public service within the county, irrespective of the service provider or agency involved, through numerous contact points throughout the county or by electronic means."

eGovernment projects developed in Shropshire are:

  • all services delivered electronically
  • Shropshire portal website www.shropshireportal.gov.uk
  • free community websites www.shrop.net
  • Shropshire Customer First - services on your doorstep
  • Customer Service Centre - a single telephone number for all services

Shropshire County Councils 'Implementing electronic government statement' version 4.5, June 2005 is attached on this page.
