Technology Services


The role of the Technology Services team is to:

  • provide strategic planning for the use of ICT by the County Council
  • develop and maintain network infrastructure and applications
  • coordinate electronic data management
  • manage access and security controls

The Technology Services team works with the Development Services team to:

  • offer objective advice and assistance in the effective use of technology in pursuit of the aims and objectives of the County Council as a whole, and its constituent departments
  • design and develop a cohesive and flexible strategic framework within which all departmental requirements can be accommodated to the overall benefit of the County Council

Technology Services is made up of seven functional areas comprising 60 staff. Those areas are:

  • IT Customer Support, which includes ITS Help Desk, Library Support, Admin Support, Social Services Support
  • infrastructure support
  • technical support
  • database management
  • technical consultancy (including telecommunications)
  • Switch on Shropshire
  • SITSS - Schools IT Support Services

Technology Services primarily provides:

  • advice and support to the County Council to help it deliver its eGovernment and ICT strategy
  • dedicated teams offering support to Social Services, libraries and schools
  • computer processing services across a variety of platforms
  • assistance and advice in selecting appropriate computer equipment – including the purchase of hardware and software on behalf of customers
  • voice and data telecommunications services
  • advice to customers regarding the development of Information & Communications Technology to support service delivery
