Action: Market Drayton and Shawbury is a pilot series of meetings held four times a year that gives people in the area a chance to meet with local councillors, get involved in decisions affecting their community and help decide how the committee spends its budget.

The Action: Market Drayton and Shawbury local joint committe covers a large area including the following parishes: Adderley, Cheswardine, Child’s Ercall, Hinstock, Hodnet, Ightfield, Moreton Corbett and Lee Brockhurst, Moreton Say, Norton-in-Hales, Stanton-upon-Hine Heath, Stoke-on-Tern, Sutton-on-Tern, Weston-under-Redcastle and Woore.

There is a budget of £65,000 available to take action on local initiatives.

Action: Market Drayton and Shawbury is one of eleven local joint committees that are now meeting regularly across Shropshire.

Last meeting - 20 May 2008

The fifth meeting took place at the Festival Drayton Centre in Market Drayton on 20 May 2008. The committee agreed to funding the following projects from the 2008/09 budget allocation:-

  • £1,000 to complete the changing facilities at Hodnet recreation ground.
  • £4,840 to contribute towards a programme of activities to support young carers in the Market Drayton area.
  • £1,750 for new safety/emergency doors at Woore Victory Hall.

  • Wednesday 24 September 2008 at Woore Victory Hall, starting at 7pm.
  • 14 January 2009 at Cheswardine Parish Hall
  • 25 March 2009 at Shawbury Village Hall
