This scheme is aimed at family carers who provide regular and substantial care to a family member, friend or neighbour.
It allows for carers to be absent for up to 48 hours or 72 hours if the period includes a bank holiday.
This scheme does not replace the current emergency service provision within adult social care in Shropshire. It is an additional service that can be considered in the event of an emergency or a situation that arises resulting in you being unable to provide any care due to unforeseen or unplanned circumstances.
How the scheme works
This scheme works by paid carers actually staying with the cared for person in their own home, which ensures continuity.
Carers will need to register for the scheme and they can do this either by requesting a full carer’s assessment with an ‘Emergency Plan, or, if they have already completed a carer’s assessment, they may wish to update the Emergency Plan at a carers review.
Financial implications
During the 48 or 72 hours that the scheme is in operation, there will be no charge for the service. However, should care provision be needed after these times, then a charge may be imposed and the care would transfer to the local care provider.
An information leaflet with further guidance on the scheme can be found at the link on this page.
