Third Party Contributions towards Residential Care Costs
Shropshire Council would like to inform service users and their families who make a so-called “Third Party Contribution” to top-up their residential care fees, that there has been a historical problem with the process that may have affected you.
Normally, where a placement is more expensive than the Council would usually expect to pay given the service user’s assessed needs, a third party contribution is required. However, in some historic cases, it is possible that the identified placement was, in fact, the only residential or nursing home that could meet the assessed needs, perhaps because all other comparable homes in the area were full at the time. Alternatively the service user may have been self-funding for a period of time or they were placed by the Primary care Trust through continuing healthcare funding which has now been withdrawn. In such circumstances, subject to a re-assessment, the Council may be obliged to meet the full costs without a third party contribution being required.
