Strong and active voluntary and community groups make a vital contribution to the quality of life of people in Shropshire.
The Compact is an agreed framework that guides the relationship between Shropshire Council and the Voluntary and Community Sector. It represents what local partners have agreed to and reflects the realities of local circumstances.
We hope it will be a firm foundation for future development and partnership.
The basis of the Compact is the recognition of the mutual advantage of working more closely together to benefit communities in Shropshire. It also builds on a number of government commitments to support community groups and community activity - acknowledging that these play a crucial role in helping people to change their communities.
Shropshire County Council adopted its Compact in March 2006. With the move to Shropshire Council, we now need to develop a new Compact between the sector and the new council, learning from past experience and best practice.
