In 2008 the Council consulted in depth with people who use START (Short Term Assessment and Re-ablement Team) service. Our aim was to find out what people think START Assistants should be able to do. We did this by interviews, questionnaires and a telephone survey.
The results told us, amongst other things, that people want social care staff to communicate well and to have a sense of humour. The findings were discussed with other colleagues in social care and the NHS, and are being used to further enhance the START service. Other services are also considering how they can use the findings.
This was a pilot project, funded by Skills for Care. It has been fully evaluated by independent consultants IPC (Institute of Public Care). In the process, we learned many things about the valuable contribution users can make to developing their services. All the lessons learned are contained in the full report, which is available on this page.
Also attached to this page is a link our 'Enhancing Re-ablement in Shropshire' DVD. The DVD gives an insight into the project and introduces you to the people involved.
