Short term breaks for carers

As a family carer, you can apply for a short term break.

We will endeavour to provide as flexible a service as possible to ensure that both you and the person you care for are looked after with as little disruption as possible.

We will discuss the type of help that will be of most benefit to you, and the person you care for, during your assessment.

There are several respite options that you can choose from which include:

Crossroads

This service allows the carer to have up to 3 hours break on a regular basis by a paid worker staying in the home of the person being cared for.

Day opportunities

The person being cared for can be given the opportunity to attend one of our many day centres. These centres offer a great range of facilities and activites, providing a stimulating environment and an opportunity for the cared for person to meet other people.

Temporary residential respite

Social Care is able to arrange for residential respite care.

Carers One-Off Direct Payment

This is a one-off annual payment which allows the carer to organise their own respite break in a way that best suits their needs. A leaflet about the Carers One-Off Direct Payment is available for you to download from this page

For more information about these options, please contact your nearest Social Work team.

Respite Solutions may also be able to help you, you can access their website via the link below.
