Performance Review and Research Unit (PRRU)

Performance Review and Research Unit (PRRU)

What we do:

The unit collects data and provides information and analyses relating to the educational performance of children and young people in Shropshire. Through the development and use of a wide range of in-house and externally provided software PRRU provides effective in-depth contextual analyses and reporting of performance data to colleagues in schools and the Children and Young People's Services Directorate.

The unit is pro-active in the development and use of data analysis techniques for furthering the understanding of value-added performance of pupils in Shropshire. National data provided by Ofsted and the DfES is used alongside local and comparative data from other authorities to provide a better understanding of the educational attainment of pupils attending maintained schools in Shropshire.

PRRU is the first point of call for headteachers in Shropshire maintained schools when sourcing pupil performance data to support the monitoring of school attainment, achievement and improvement. PRRU collects Foundation Stage Profile scores and the Key Stage 1 results directly from Shropshire infant and primary schools, forwarding the data to DfES where it is collated for reporting in the national tables of school performance. Attainment data of pupils assessed at Key Stage 2 through to Key Stage 4 and beyond are provided to the unit by the DfES and external institutions. The data is then analysed and reported to colleagues, furthering knowledge and providing a base measure for school improvement across the authority.

The PRRU is actively involved in the schools’ target setting process, offering monitoring and other supporting data and guidance in the Autumn term when school governors are required to set the statutory targets for the school.

School performance information for parents and prospective students can be obtained directly from the school and from the DfES Performance table website (follow the link on this page).
