Is it easy to give a legacy to Age Concern?
Yes, but we do recommend that any will is drawn up by a solicitor to ensure that it reflects your exact wishes and you understand the tax implications. Any legacy to a charity is tax exempt. Your solicitor will need to know the exact name and charity number.

Age Concern Shropshire Telford & Wrekin
Charity Number 1090445

What are the different types of legacy?

  • residuary legacy means you register your commitment to help us without stating a fixed amount - you simply bequeath us the residue of your estate after all other bequests have been paid. Many people leave the residue to charity as this can have the benefit of helping to reduce the Inheritance Tax liability.
  • pecuniary legacy means you gift a precise sum of money but this could be devalued by inflation
  • specific legacy means you gift a particular item which could be stocks and shares, a piece of furniture or even a house

What if I already have a will?
If you already have a will, it is easy to include a charitable legacy by means of a codicil. The codicil should be written on a separate sheet of paper, signed by yourself and two independent witnesses and filed with the original will.
