Guided walks with the Shropshire Archaeology Service
You can join staff of the Archaeology Service in June and July on a series of guided walks exploring some of Shropshire's historic monuments and archaeological sites. The walks will all start at 7.30pm and will last around 1½ - 2 hours. The cost of the walks is £3 per walk, payable on the day.
For details of the 2011 walks please contact us via the details on this page.
In 2010 we visited: Ellesmere to explore a medieval motte and bailey castle, late 18th century canal, canal basin and wharfage, and 19th-20th century pleasure gardens; Bury Ditches Hillfort to visit an Iron Age hill-top settlement; Snailbeach and Lordshill looking at the remains of 19th-century lead-mining and a post-medieval squatter settlement; and Nesscliffe Hill to explore an Iron Age hillfort, a highwayman's den, and historic quarries.
The summer walks are part of a programme of walks and events organised jointly by the Archaeology Service and the Friends of Shropshire Archives. For more information about other events, please follow the Friends of Shropshire Archives link on this page.
