Welcome to Shropshire Archives - gateway to the history of Shropshire and Telford.
Closure period
Shropshire Archives is closed to visitors from Monday 1 June 2009 for essential work to remodel the public spaces. This will improve the welcome for visitors by opening up the reception area and creating more circulation and display space.
The Service will reopen on Wednesday 8 July 2009 following the new pattern of opening hours (see below).

Archives staff and volunteers from Shropshire Family History Society will also be on hand, providing a ‘Help Desk’ dealing with family and local history sources in the Reference Library, Castle Gates, Shrewsbury:

From 8 July 2009 Shropshire Archives will change its opening hours.

Tuesdays Closed
Wednesdays 10.00 - 17.00
Thursdays 10.00 - 20.00 (original documents must be ordered by 17.45)
Fridays 10.00 - 17.00
Saturdays 10.00 - 16.00 (original documents must be ordered by 15.00 Friday)
These changes will allow Shropshire Archives to allocate resources to support the development of online services, which are seeing a huge increase in demand. During the times the service is closed to the public we will also be able to provide enhanced opportunities for learning activities, including school visits, and volunteering, which supports our cataloguing and conservation work.
