Document ordering
At most times, you can drop into Shropshire Archives and browse, but if you know what documents you would like to see it is often quicker to order them in advance. Please note that we aren't able to fetch items from our stores over lunchtime (12 noon - 1pm).
If you want to see original documents on a Saturday or Thursday evening, you will need to request them in advance.
Most of our District Authority records from 1835 to 1974 are now housed at an outstore and these need to be ordered in advance. Records ordered by 8pm on Thursday will be available to view in our Search Room from the following Wednesday. The collections which are affected are DA2-DA5, DA7-DA34, DA41-DA45. Details of these records are available on our on-line catalogue.
Please try and give three days notice when ordering documents in advance.
You will need a Shropshire Archives reader's ticket to consult original documents.

- contacting us by phone or email (see contact details on this page)
- completing the online form on this page - please only use this method if you know the reference number of the document you require.
Microfiche, microfilm and computer booking
We advise reserving a place in advance if you want to look at material on microfiche/microfilm.
You can book a computer in advance for a maximum of 2 hours. If you would like to use a computer for longer, then we advise you to use the Reference Library next door. If you are under 16, you will need to provide parental/guardian permission to use the computers and we will ask you to get a Reader's Ticket.
You can book microfiche, microfilm and computer bookings by contacting us by phone or email (see contact details on this page). Shropshire Council's Customer Service Centre will make advance bookings by phone for you.
