You can drop into Shropshire Archives and browse but if you know what documents you would like to see it is quicker to order them in advance.
Viewing original documents
- You will need a Shropshire Archives Readers Ticket to consult original documents, to find out more please follow the link on this page.
- On Thursdays original documents must be ordered by 5.45pm to get them that evening.
- To ensure we have the original documents you may need for a Saturday, you will need to order them before 3pm on Friday.
- There are restrictions on production of original materials between 12pm and 1pm.
District Authority records
- Records from 1835 to 1974 (collections: DA2-DA5, DA7-DA34, DA41-DA45) need to be ordered in advance.
- Records ordered by 8pm on Thursday should be available to view from the following Wednesday.

Microfiche, microfilm and computer booking
Microfiche and microfilm
Many popular family and local history resources, such as some parish registers, newspapers and maps, are on microfiche or microfilm.
We advise reserving a place in advance. Machines can be booked for the whole day.
Public access computers
You can book a computer in advance for a maximum of 2 hours. You will need a Shropshire Archives Reader’s Ticket or a Shropshire/Telford and Wrekin Libraries card to use the computers.
We also have Wi-Fi access at Shropshire Archives. No need to book just turn up with your lap top. You’ll need to register and create a unique user name and PIN code (please remember this as we don’t have access to these details).
