If you want to look at archives or rare material, including electoral registers, photographs, pamphlets, and some newspapers, you will need a Shropshire Archives Reader's Ticket.
This ticket is unique to Shropshire Archives - we are not part of the library service or the County Archives Network (CARN) as for extra security we require a photograph.
Computer use
If you are intending to use one of our People’s Network PCs you will need a Shropshire Archive’s Reader’s Ticket (or Shropshire/Telford and Wrekin Libraries Card) which you should hand to staff at the start of your session. If you have a library card, please note that we may phone the library service to check your details.
How to get a Reader's Ticket
You can get a ticket when you arrive, but please bring with you:
- official proof of identity showing name, address and signature, e.g. driving licence.
- two loose passport sized photographs (we can take photographs for you for £1.50 or 50p for student tickets)
Please note that UK and some other passports don't give addresses so we can't accept these as proof of ID.
If you are under 16 you will need to bring a letter from your parent or guardian giving permission for you to use the computers and/or consult material in the Search Room. We also need to see proof of address for your parents.
You can download the appropriate PDF readers’ ticket registration form prior to your visit.
