Stepping out - Into the Countryside
The centre itself sits on a 30-acre site - the Onny Meadows - which stretches down to the River Onny. The native planting of trees and wildflowers along with ponds make it an ideal place for a gentle stroll and the perfect location for many of our events.
If you want to travel further afield there are plenty of options. For more details on any of these follow the appropriate link on this page.
Walks and Bike Rides
There are three way-marked walks and six cycle rides from the Centre out into the heart of the countryside. All are circular so you can pick up the appropriate leaflet from the centre in the morning, leave your car in our car park and spend the day exploring. The shop also stocks a wide range of leaflets and books containing other walking and cycling routes in the local area.
GEOcaching
For a more high-tech method of exploration, you could follow one of our GEOcaching trails out into the countryside. On these themed treasure hunts you use a hand-held GPS unit to point you in the right direction!
Craven Arms Shamblers
The Craven Arms Shamblers are a local group of walkers who meet at the Centre once a week, then head off for a 3-5 mile stroll through the countryside. To find out about their walks, contact the Discovery Centre.
Shropshire Hills Shuttle
If you are feeling less energetic you can hop on the Shropshire Hills Shuttle bus in the summer and take a scenic tour of the area. The 2009 shuttles season is over, but the shuttles will start up again on 3 April 2010.
Hot Air Balloon Flights
Maybe the ultimate way to see the sights is by hot air balloon - a local company uses the Onny Meadows as a launch site. Follow the link to Espiritu's website to find out more.
