Activities

The Broadplaces are there for everyone, whatever your age, ability or interest. The informal nature of drop in sessions has made them very popular with those new to IT and the community focus has encouraged new groups such as Family History and Digital Photography Clubs to flourish. For young people who don't have access to broadband at home, a number of Broadplaces run homework clubs after school.

Venues

Venues included village halls, post offices, tea rooms, pubs and even a fire station! Many are run with the support of local volunteers who facilities drop-in sessions, clubs and other activities.

Volunteering

There are currently over 400 volunteers who support the Broadplaces. You do not need to be a computer expert to get involved. All you need to know is a little bit more than someone who knows nothing! There are lots of ways that you can get involved:
  • Supporting drop-in sessions
  • Promote sessions and courses to the local community
  • Design posters
  • Update the village website
  • Join the Steering Group
  • Help young people with their homework
  • Make refreshments for visitors
  • Help with fund-raising

It is a great way to meet new people, learn new skills and give something back to the local community. For young people doing the Duke of Edinburgh Award, the Broadplaces can offer ideal placements for the Community Service Award. Contact the Co-ordinator at your local Broadplace or the Broadplace Support Officer.

Opportunities for Community Groups

The Broadplaces have printers, a digital camera, projector and screen. Some also have filming equipment and a range of software including Photoshop, Playgroup software, Family History and Garden Design.

Equipment can be loaned to Community Groups, either for a donation or in return for support with sessions. Contact your local Broadplace to see what is available.
