Supporting small businesses relief
In March 2017, the Government announced that a new scheme of relief would be made available to these ratepayers facing large increases in their rates bills as a result of the loss of some of, or all of, their Small Business Rate Relief or Rural Rate Relief due to the 2017 Revaluation, which came into effect on 1 April 2017.
Businesses affected will not be expected to pay an increase in their bill of more than £600 during 2017/18, and then a further £600 per year for the following four years.
It should be noted that this new Supporting Small Businesses Relief would need to be recalculated when:-
- The Rateable Value of the property is amended;
- Other rate reliefs are awarded; or
- The property becomes unoccupied.
