Attached is the second annual update of our corporate plan, for 2008-2009. It re-affirms our vision - to improve significantly the quality of life for Shropshire people - and the aims which we are committed to achieving to help us to fulfil this vision. The plan also includes our core values - how we do things is important to us. Our priorities for the coming year remain unchanged.

The Corporate Plan gives a flavour of some of our key achievements over the past year - how we are making a real difference on the ground. Our excellent performance is recognised by the Audit Commission in their overall Direction of Travel judgement for 2007, which judged us as ‘4 star and improving strongly’. We are ranked 17th out of all 388 authorities.

As we progress towards the transition to one council, this corporate plan sets out how we will continue to work to fulfil our aims and priorities.

Our Vision
Our vision is "To improve significantly the quality of life for Shropshire people".

Our Priorities
Our top priorities for 2008-2009 are:

  • Developing one door access to services.
  • Achieving an improved an integrated waste management service through the Shropshire Waste Partnership and the Private Finance Initiative contract.
  • Delivering services for children and young people with special and complex needs.
  • Protecting adults at risk: by developing support for people with complex learning difficulties; and through Private Finance Initiative and community projects..
  • Responding to the Local Government White Paper, including transition to Shropshire Council.
