Early years education

The Government gives funding to Shropshire County Council to provide free part-time nursery education places for every child in the term after their third birthday. These places can be found in:

• day nurseries
• nursery schools
• nursery classes at Local Authority schools
• pre-schools
• independent schools provided they have registered with the council to do so.

You can check with Shropshire CIS, (full contact details available by following the email link in the contact box), to find an up to date list of where places are available in your area. The attached leaflet gives more detailed information.

Funding is available during term time only and these are the relevant dates for this financial year April 2008 to March 2009:

• Summer term: Tuesday April 8 to Friday July 18 excluding Bank Holiday May 5 and half term May 26 to 30.
• Autumn term: Tuesday September 2 to Friday December 19 excluding half term October 27 to 31 and PD/Day October 24.
• Spring term: Tuesday January 6 to Thursday April 3 excluding half term February 16 to 20.
