In order for children to make a significant contribution to your setting and the wider community, they need to feel that their opinions and thoughts are valued. Your Development Officer (DO) can help you develop policies and practices to ensure that all the children in your setting feel valued and respected. Your Children Centre Area Teacher (CCAT) can help you to develop your practice in consulting with children, partnership with parents and behaviour management so that all children feel valued and important to your setting, helping them to develop a sense of their own identity, self worth and resilience.
If you have any concerns about a child's behaviour or development you can contact your Special Education Needs Coordinator (SENCO). SENCOs have a wealth of experience to help you and the children's families provide support for children who may need some extra help either temporarily or on a longer term basis.
Children need to develop a sense of the wider community including Britain's multicultural society. The Schools Multicultural Development Service (SMDS) has a huge range of resources to help you broaden your children's knowledge of the world in which they live. SMDS also has interpreters who can help if you have children and families who need support with English. Contact them on 01952 380828.
You can find extracts from local Ofsted reports showing how providers have achieved 'outstanding' for their provision in this outcome in publications.
