If you know somebody is having problems caring for their child or children it is important that you contact the Stay Safe Team at Children and Young People Services. Safeguarding children is everyone responsibility.
People often believe that involving Social Workers and the Police, when concerned about the safety and welfare of a child, will automatically mean that children will be removed from the care of their family.
This rarely happens as all agencies try and work with families offering support and advice to help them care for their children safely at home. It is only when agencies feel that a child cannot safely remain at home that they need to live else where. This is often only for a short period and action is only taken if agreed by a court or by the parent/carers.
If you are concerned about a child contact the Stay Safe Team at Children and Young People Services Teams on:

Stay Safe Team 0845 6789006

Emergency Duty Team (Out of Hours) 0845 678 9040

In an emergency, call the police on 08457 444888 and ask to speak to a child protection police officer.

Or the NSPCC Tel: 0808 800 5000 - this is the freephone Child Protection Helpline, available 24 hours a day.
