What is Triple P?
Triple P is part of the core offer for Children’s Centres and Extended Schools. It is one of the top ten priorities for the Shropshire Children’s Trust Plan.
The Triple P Positive Parenting Program is a multi-level parenting and family support strategy that aims to prevent acute behavioural, emotional and developmental problems in children. It is available in the form of one-to-one sessions, group work, workshops and self-help workbooks.
The programme was developed by Professor Matt Sanders and colleagues from the Parenting and Family Support Centre in the School of Psychology at the University of Queensland, Australia. It has been developed through more than 20 years of research and assessment. The programme is based on contemporary knowledge and has been well tested in international research. Many parents have found it to be extremely beneficial at all levels.
Aims of Triple P:
- Promote the independence and health of families by enhancing parents’ knowledge, skills and confidence.
- Promote the development, growth, health and social competencies of young children.
- Promote the development of non-violent, protective and nurturing environments for children
- Reduce incidences of child-abuse, mental illness, behavioural problems, delinquency and homelessness.
- Enhance the competence, resourcefulness and self-sufficiency of parents in raising their pre-adolescent children.
