10.30 am All through School - St Martins

SUMMARY

On 15 February 2011, Cabinet commissioned pre-statutory consultation on proposals for the creation of an all-through school to serve the St Martin’s and Ifton Heath areas north east of Oswestry. This would be accomplished by closing Ifton Heath Primary School and expanding the age range of Rhyn Park Secondary School to include a primary division. This report detailed the outcomes from the consultation; the recommendation of the Corporate Director for People’s Services and asked Members to consider whether to proceed with formal (statutory) proposals.

Recommendations:


Cabinet was recommended to:

(1) note the outcomes from the pre-statutory consultation;

(2) to defer until the Cabinet Meeting on 20 July 2011 a decision on proposals to expand the age range of Rhyn Park School. This would be achieved through the closure of Ifton Heath Primary School with effect from 3rd August 2012.

In this proposal Pupils on roll at Ifton Heath Primary School at the time would be offered places at Rhyn Park School in line with the recommendation of the Corporate Director for People’s Services.
