Thank you to Donington Church Centre for hosting the third meeting of the Albrighton Area Local Joint Committee which met on 10th February. It was good to see so many members of the public taking the time to come along on such a cold night.

Laura Rowley, Director of Resources, gave a presentation and took questions on Shropshire Council's budget proposals for 2010/2011. She stressed that the Council wanted to involve local people in the budget setting process.

Martin Stevens and Melanie Revolta from Shropshire Youth Service also updated the meeting on youth provision in the area, including graffiti workshops, first aid courses, cinema trips, Snowdome trips, etc.

The Local Policing Officer, Rod Salt gave an update on crime levels in the area and highlighted the dates of forthcoming PACT surgeries on 15th February, 29th March and 26 April.

The Committee then received a presentation from Mr Rod Smith of the Cross Road Traffic Group, concerning the footpath at Elm Road. There was unanimous support for the Committee to formally request the Highways section to review their plans to include the additional 50 metres identified by the residents in their proposals for this stretch of road.

A lively public question time then took place, where residents raised a variety of issues for officers to investigate on behalf of the Committee, including issues relating to the skatepark. These will be reported back to a future meeting.

Funding

A total of 16 applications for grants were considered for funding. Ten applications were successful: Jazz Specials, Albrighton Civic Society, Wesley Hall Car Park, Albrighton Senior Section Guides, Albrighton Methodist Art Group, Albrighton Broadplace, Red House Flower Show 2010, Albrighton Table Tennis Club, Albrighton Junior Youth Club, and Albrighton Civic Society administration.

A further grant for Albrighton Cricket Club was ring fenced to enable the club to use it as match funding for the outstanding budget required for the project.

The deadline for receipt of applications to the final round for this financial year is 24th February 2010. Please contact Andrea Williams on 01746 713104 for advice and guidance on the process.

Except in the case of urgency, decisions taken by Local Joint Committees will not be actioned until a period of seven working days has elapsed from the date of the meeting, to allow time for publication and potential call-in by Shropshire Council of these decisions.
