All residents are encouraged to come along to the next meeting of the Shifnal and Sheriffhales Local Joint Committee on 23rd March 2010.
The main item for the meeting will be discussion about the proposals for the relocation of Shifnal medical practice with a representative from Shifnal and Priorslee Medical Practice.
At the last meeting Laura Rowley, Director of Resources and Keith Barrow, Leader of the Council gave a presentation on Shropshire Council's budget proposals for 2010-2011. It was emphasised that the Council wanted to involve local people and receive their views on the budget setting exercise.
During the question/answer session the following issues/concerns were raised:
The lack of a swimming pool/leisure centre for Shifnal
Dismay and resentment over the proposed 3.5% increase in Council Tax for the locality
Plans for the housing stock
The need for a new elderly care home in Shifnal
Paul Tulley gave a presentation on the development of local healthcare within the Shrewsbury and Telford PCT. He went on to address concerns from some residents in respect of a proposed relocation of the Shifnal Medical Practice. It was agreed that a senior partner of the Shifnal Medical Practice be invited to attend the next meeting to discuss the issue.
Jayne Owen updated residents on the Shifnal Town Plan and outlined current projects. Future projects include a Shifnal Newsletter, a Farmers Market and an Arts Festival. She extended an invitation to everyone to get involved with any area of work they might find interesting.
Funding Applications
A total of eleven grant applications were considered for funding. Six projects were awarded grants totalling £5,400. These were:
Shropshire Young Carers, Shifnal Harriers Football Club, Shifnal Cricket Club, Shifnal Festival, Walled Garden Project, Shifnal Village Hall.
A total of £14859.50 remains in the budget and applications for the 3rd must be submitted by 19th February 2010. Please contact Kerry Rogers for advice and guidance on the process.

Budget for 2009/10
£24,000
In addition to the financial procedures attached, additional funding criteria was agreed:
Applications should not normally exceed £1,000, however higher funding bids may be considered where need and demand are justified and good value for the community is demonstrated.
A community chest fund of £2,500 be established for smaller applications of up to £100.
Except in the case of urgency, decisions taken by Local Joint Committees will not be actioned until a period of seven working days has elapsed from the date of the meeting, to allow time for publication and potential call-in by Shropshire Council of these decisions.
The grant application form attached should be completed for both the larger and smaller funding pots.
