Grant funding for local projects

Searching for and applying to grant schemes or other forms of financial assistance can seem a daunting challenge. The Community Working team will be able to help you identify which fund is most suitable for your project.

If you just need a small grant you may be able to apply for one of the small grants schemes that exist in Shropshire, such as Grassroots Grants, Nexus, Awards for All or the Local Joint Committee funds. The Community Working team will be able to help you identify which grant is most suitable for you and advise you in completing any application forms.

Advice on larger sources of funding is also available through the Community Working team. They will be able to give you details of how to apply for these funds and put you in contact with relevant organisations.

Shropshire Council’s External Funding team work to secure regional, national and European sources of funding for Shropshire. The Community Working officers have close links with this team to ensure that wherever possible local level activity can benefit from funds secured for the county.

For more details on how to secure funding for projects in your community, please complete the on-line form found on this page.

The Shropshire Community Fund has recently allocated its funding for 2009/10

Community groups across Shropshire have received a boost with £500,000 in funding being awarded through Shropshire Council’s community grant fund programme.

A variety of organisations – from village hall committees to cricket clubs – have receive grants of up to £50,000 each to improve their facilities.

Of the 47 applications received, 21 have been successful from this year’s fund.

Among the successful groups are the Birchmeadow Centre, Broseley, which has been awarded £48,000 for improvements to the centre, and Bridgnorth’s Theatre on the Steps which has been given £47,000 for refurbishment of the stage.

Bayston Hill Memorial Hall has been awarded £30,000 towards redevelopment work, and Lyon Memorial Hall in Hodnet will receive £35,000. Knockin and Kinnerley Cricket Club and Coton Hall Cricket Club will each benefit from £16,000 towards work on their pavilions.

A full list of successful applicants is listed below.

Councillor Stephen Charmley, Shropshire Council cabinet member for culture and leisure, said: “This is such good news for these community groups and I am delighted so many applied for funding. The vast majority of money is going to be spent on refurbishment projects, which are very important to maintain the facilities for the future.”

Councillor Gwilym Butler, Shropshire Council cabinet member for community working, added: “As a council, we are committed to supporting community projects, and these grants will provide a great boost for them. It has been a difficult job deciding which projects to approve – we had 47 very deserving schemes applying and unfortunately could not provide funding for them all. But this is great news and I am sure the successful applicants will use the money very wisely.”
