Members of Summer Pride in Highley are celebrating a blooming summer, thanks to their new water bowser which was bought with help from the Much Wenlock, Brown Clee and Highley Local Joint Committee (LJC).
Altogether, Summer Pride has created 200 containers of summer flowers plus eight raised flowerbeds and several gardens around the village, all of which need regular watering by a single volunteer.
June Guest, Chairman of Summer Pride, said “Members are very grateful to Shropshire Council for the contribution towards our new bowser. We have to raise funds every year for summer bedding plants, compost and replacement containers. We also need from time to time to replace some our permanent planting, so it’s unlikely we would have been able to raise the funds for a new water bowser.”
Shropshire Councillor Robert Tindall, who chairs the LJC, added “I am very pleased that we were able to help Summer Pride with its sterling work in keeping Highley attractive for local people and visitors.”
