Third Meeting 20 January 2010
The third meeting of this committee took place on Wednesday 20 January in the Village Hall, Marton from 7pm to 9.30pm. There was a disappointing turnout for this session, probably due to the bad weather - there was still snow lying in some of our LJC19 area and for ice and fog were forecast for later in the night. 5 members of the public attended, and there were apologies given from 3 others. Also, apologies were received from 4 members of the Committee (one of whom was trapped by the snow). However, despite this, there was lively discussion following the presentation by Cllr Mal Price on Affordable Housing. Then Chris Edwards (Assistant Director, Environmental Maintenance) answered questions on how Shropshire Council looks after the local roads - potholes and blocked gulleys and drains are a constant problem and Chris explained that his department does its best to deal with issues as quickly as possible. Any potholes are currently being temporarily filled, with a view to each section of road affected having a more permanent repair in the next few months where a patch is cut out and replaced. There were some queries about inadequate gritting, or deployment of snow ploughs in parts of the area that needed it, and one side road that needs to be resurfaced, and Chris agreed to take all these comments away to be considered. However, thanks were also given to Chris and his team for the sterling work over the past few weeks in dealing with very difficult weather conditions.
Grants
A total of 17 applications were received for funding for the 2nd round which ended on 30 November. 14 projects were awarded grants, 1 application was rejected and two were deferred for a decision until the next round. £12,271.03 remains in the annual budget. As before, all applicants must speak to the Community Regeneration Officer, Frances Hall, before submitting an application. The next deadline is 12 February and the decision on applications for this third round will be announced at the Local Joint Committee meeting on 17 March 2010. If a community group has a project needing financial support before January, they will need to get in touch with Frances asap and she will try to help.
