Meeting dates for this Local Joint Committee
Monday 15 March
Residents of the Wem and Shawbury area are warmly invited to attend the next meeting on the 15th March which will be held at Edinburgh House, Wem commencing at 7pm.
It is hoped that young people in the Wem and Shawbury area will come along and meet Joe White, former member of the Youth Parliament who will be giving a presentation on the role of being a Youth Parliament Member.
The budget for 2009/10 has already been committed. The budget for 2010/11 is £54,000 and the committee will be discussing a budget criteria and priorities for the next financial year.
The committee will also feedback on the re-routing of the rural 511 bus route, following concerns that were raised at the last meeting.
The Local Joint Committee has a budget to fund projects that benefit the wider community. Applications for funding have been awarded to the following groups:
- Friends of Whitchurch Road Cemetery towards the restoration of the Chapel
- Wem Civic Society towards the installation of a handrail at the Wem War Memorial
- Clive Hand Bells for refurbishment of bells
- St Peter and St Paul’s Church Social Committee towards new tables for the Church Hall
- St Michael and All Angels Church, Loppington, for foul water connection to complete the conversion of part of the church into a wider used community building
- Shawbury Parish Council toward the provision of footpaths on the recreation ground
- St Mary’s Church, Shawbury, to help to convert the Church tower into a community building
- Wem Carnival Committee
- Wem Christmas Festival
- Wem Cricket Club, towards creating Junior Practice Facilities and a clubroom refurbishment
- Wem Angling Club, towards fitting an otter proof fence around two pools
- Newtown Community Park to carry out urgent repairs
- Coton Cricket Club Development Plan, towards refurbishing the club house
- Lee Brockhurst Village Hall towards repairs to the village hall
- Weston Under Redcastle Village Hall, to help update the village hall
- Harmer Hill Bowling Club towards purchasing a new bowling mat
- Wem Youth Club towards refurbishment
- Shropshire Youth towards youth activities
Except in the case of urgency, decisions taken by Local Joint Committees will not be actioned until a period of seven working days has elapsed from the date of the meeting, to allow time for publication and potential call-in by Shropshire Council of these decisions.
Funding for this financial year (until April 2010) has now been committed. Groups needing support with their project should contact the community working officer on 01939 237428.

£54,000
