The latest meeting of the Longden Ford and Rea Valley Local Joint Committee took place on Wednesday 10th March, and was devoted to a discussion about opportunities for young people in the area.
Young people from the area help to plan and run the meeting and put forward a series of presentations to the Committee members about issues that were important to them including transport, leisure provision and jobs and training.
Issues discussed included the cost of public transport in rural areas; how better use could be made of sports centres and council facilities and how links could be made with local businesses to provide careers advice.
Tim Smith, Lead Officer for Longden, Ford and Rea Valley LJC said: “The meeting was a huge success and very well attended by young people and local residents. There were many positive outcomes from the meeting including making better use of the existing facilities in the area for young people and working towards ensuring that young people can access facilities in other parts of the county."
"Young people were given an opportunity to lead workshops and took part in discussions about what they would like to see happen in their local area and how the council could assist them in achieving this. Shropshire Council will continue to engage with young people to help plan and shape their community"
