Meeting dates for this Local Joint Committee
Wednesday 6 January - Church Stretton School postponed
Thursday 18 March
StrettonDale Local Joint Committee
People in the Stretton and Apedale area will have the chance to vote on Shropshire Council’s annual spending plans at the Local Joint Committee.
The meeting, which will take place on Wednesday 6 January from 7.00pm at Church Stretton School, will feature user friendly voting technology in the form of ‘voting pods’ not unlike those used in TV debating shows. The voting on particular proposals will follow a short presentation about the key issues, one of which will be the need for some spending cuts.
In addition to this the committee holds £22,000 to ensure that community projects are supported. In this round of funding several applications have been made including Long Mynd Arts, Church Stretton Tree Group, Scrappies, the All Stretton Village Society, Church Stretton Play Area, the 4 Parishes Youth Group and the Church Stretton Partnership (Events Calendar) which will be discussed and decided upon at the meeting.
The meeting will give members of the community a chance to ask questions they may have and the local police will be on hand to respond to any concerns raised.
Councillor James Gibson, Chairman of the StrettonDale LJC said: “I would encourage all local people who would like to raise any issues or concerns to attend the meeting. It is a chance for the local community to get involved and find out more about what the LJC can offer them.
“Local issues that we will be discussing this time will include reports about an increase in fly tipping, graffiti and dog fouling. Shropshire Council’s Environmental Maintenance service will also be present to offer an insight into what the Council is doing to improve matters.”
The Local Joint Committee has set its priorities for the coming year and will be looking at larger scale projects to support. These priorities include supporting village halls, supporting local young people including youth projects, nurseries and playgroups, affordable housing, initiatives to reduce flooding, improving access to health services and innovative local transport schemes.
For further information on the working of the Local Joint Committee and grants please contact Peter Dunhill, Shropshire Council’s Community Regeneration Officer for the area on 01746 713230 or 07837 718556 or by emailing peter.dunhill@shropshire.gov.uk The closing date for the next round of grants is 29 January 2010
Except in the case of urgency, decisions taken by Local Joint Committees will not be actioned until a period of seven working days has elapsed from the date of the meeting, to allow time for publication and potential call-in by Shropshire Council of these decisions.
