Meeting 1: 9 July 2009
Shropshire Council hosted the first meeting of the Ellesmere area Local Joint Committee (LJC) on 9 July at Ellesmere Town Hall bringing members of the local community together to improve the quality of life in their local area. At this inaugural meeting, which was attended by approximately 40 local residents, members determined that Councillor Ann Hartley from Shropshire Council would be Chairman and Councillor Pat McLaughlin, from Ellesmere Town Council was voted as Vice-Chairman.
During the meeting, members detailed the issues surrounding their local areas and residents were informed that the Committee will have a total budget of £28,000 for this financial year. This funding is to be used to support local community and voluntary activity in the Ellesmere area.
Sgt Julian Hinds, from West Mercia Police stressed how important working in partnership will be to guarantee the success of the LJC and that by doing so; the Committee can carry out many activities that go beyond the remit of one single organisation.
Meeting 2: 30 September 2009
At the second meeting of the LJC held on the 30 September the committee agreed to split the funding into three tranches. Following this decision more than £6000 was awarded to community groups and projects in the Ellesmere Area. The successful applications included:-
- Cockshutt Millennium Hall - £2,500 for a new fire safety alarm to be installed.
- Cockshutt Primary School - £1,512 towards forest school activities
- British Red Cross Young Carers - £100 for young carers to attend support meetings.

About the LJC meetings
The meetings are open to anyone who would like to attend from the area. The LJC depends on pubic participation and appreciates the input from the local community in identifying the matters that are most important for the area.
Please feel free to come along and bring any issues or thoughts that you would like to raise to help improve the area in which you live. We would particularly like to see young people at the meetings to hear their ideas too.
Meetings will include the local PACT meeting ( Partners and Communities Together) for which a member of the local Police team will be in attendance to hear any concerns or issues you may wish to raise in conjunction with crime and safety.
