Residents of Baschurch, Hordley, West Felton, Ruyton X1 Towns and Whittington attended their third Local Joint Committee on Monday 11 January at Baschurch Village Hall.

The meeting was very well attended and gave young people the chance to have their say on what they would like to see happen in the area.

Representatives from local businesses together with Connexions and other sport and youth organisations discussed with those present possible ideas and activities for young people in the Five Perry Parishes area. Feedback from the meeting will be taken into local schools and reported back on at the next meeting.

In the second half of the meeting applications for funding were considered and agreed upon by the Panel of Councillors for;

• Whittington Community Central - refurbishment and decoration of the entrance and toilets to the centre - £1,100
• Hordley and Bagley Village Hall - funding towards the cost of tarmacing the village hall car park - £1,500
• Hordley Parochial Church Council - funding towards the cost of a garden of remembrance at Hordley Cemetery - £1,000
• Holy Trinity Church West Lullingfields - funding towards the cost of a compost toilet facility in the church grounds- £1,500
• Whittington Castle Preservation Trust - funding towards an electronic barrier to cordon off the car park at night - £1,500
• Baschurch Village Hall - refurbishment and decoration of the hall and entrance- £1,500

Three projects were deferred to the March meeting as they were youth related projects and the Committee wished to make its decision in the light of comments made at this meeting. The fourth deferred project was funding for a twinning community activity due to take place in the summer.

Except in the case of urgency, decisions taken by Local Joint Committees will not be actioned until a period of seven working days has elapsed from the date of the meeting, to allow time for publication and potential call-in by Shropshire Council of these decisions

Any groups interested in bidding for future funding should contact the Community Working Officer.

The next meeting of this committee will be on Wednesday 17th March at West Felton Village Hall. This meeting will offer an opportunity for you to raise any issues you feel are important to your local community as well as give feedback on the January meeting. The meeting starts at 7pm and everyone is welcome.
