All meetings are at 7pm, doors will open at 6.30pm to provide an opportunity for members of the public to speak to local Councillors and Shropshire Council officers

The St Oswald and Llanymynech Local Joint Committee covers the parishes of Oswestry Rural, Llanymynech and Pant, Llanyblodwel, Kinnerley, Knockin, Melverley, and will move to a different venue for each meeting.

Meeting 3: 19th January 2010, Kinnerley Parish Hall
The snow finally disappeared and we were able to go ahead with the postponed LJC meeting in Kinnerley. Thank you to everyone who attended.

The Chairman and Lead Officer gave feedback on issues raised at the last LJC meeting in October. A full listing of the issues raised at that meeting and feedback given can be viewed on the attachment below.

Presentations
Leader of the Council, Councillor Keith Barrow and the Lead Officer, James Walton (Assistant Director Strategy & Business) gave a presentation on the budget consultation for 2010/11. Members of the public were then invited to vote and give their views on certain issues which would be taken into consideration in the final budget strategy.

The Portfolio Holder for Housing, Councillor Malcolm Price, Dave Parker (Project Manager (Implementation) and Helen Pugh, Housing Enabling & Development Officer, gave a presentation on Affordable Housing in the county.

PC Royston Alderwick attended the meeting on behalf of PC Pete Dale and gave details of a new scheme called 'Rural Watch'. Members of the public can sign up to receive updates and warnings about suspected criminal activity in their area. Leaflets are available from West Mercia Police. PC Alderwick also explained about how to protect property with 'Smart water'. Kits are available from West Mercia Police.

Community Fund Applications
The committee members went on to vote on applications to the second round of the Community Fund. Thirteen applications (including deferred) were received in this round. It was decided to allocate £7,231.68 to eight community group projects.

The successful applications included:

  • Telecope Parish Magazine - £984 for the purchase of IT equipment
  • Llanymynech Junior Football Club - £2,000 towards purchasing football strips for its 230 members
  • Peel's Plantation Management Group - £397.68 to cover hedge laying costs for the community woodland.
  • Duchess Countess Trust - £500 towards promotional materials for the visitors centre.
  • Morda Village Design Statement Group - £500 towards stationery, postage and web page development to canvass local people's views on their community
  • Knockin Assembly Rooms - £750 towards the purchase of crockery, cutlery and a storage cupboard
  • Shropshire Union Canal Society - £1,600 to offer essential training courses for local volunteers
  • Pant Pigeon Club - £500 for the replacement of equipment

Please note except in the case of urgency, decisions taken by Local Joint Committees will not be actioned until a period of seven working days has elapsed from the date of the meeting, to allow time for publication and potential call-in by Shropshire Council of these decisions.
