Evolution, Revolution and Innovation is the new Cultural Strategy for Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin.
The Cultural Strategy, driven by the Cultural Consortium, which includes Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin Council’s and the private and voluntary sectors, maps out what we want to achieve over the years to come, working with local people and with creative and cultural industries to deliver our vision.
As well as proving the value of culture in Shropshire, the aim of the strategy is to help enhance and create new ways to:
- Improve health and wellbeing
- Think Green, Live Green
- Learn about and through culture
- Regeneration and economic sustainability
- Develop a sense of place and a sense of identity
- Connect people, places and organisations to share and deliver culture
The consultation period which ran from 12th October to 9th December 2009 has now closed. The final document has now been approved and is available on this page for you to download.
Councillor Steve Charmley, Shropshire Council’s Portfolio Holder for Culture and Leisure said “With increasing evidence that culture plays a big part in changing people’s lives for the better, it is vital that our strategy reaches out to everyone in Shropshire and therefore encourage as many people as possible to share their views and comments.”
Sue Goodwin, Principal Arts Development Officer at Shropshire Council said, “We want culture to be for everyone, everywhere. It should be part of people’s lives where they live, work and play and that’s why it’s important that we seek the views of our residents to help shape that vision. “
The strategy embraces a partnership approach between Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin Councils and the private and voluntary sectors. It has been developed by the new sub-regional Cultural Consortium whose members represent culture, regeneration, health, equality and diversity, safer communities and young people.
The Consortium has been set-up to promote the cultural industries and tourism, regionally and nationally and to create opportunities for economic growth in this sector
