Changes to procedure for complaints relating to the Code of Conduct

On 8 May 2008 the responsibility for considering complaints that a member may have breached the Code of Conduct moved from the Standards Board for England to the standards committees of local authorities.

What this means to you

If you want to take your complaint about the conduct of a member of Shropshire County Council further, you must address your complaint to:

The Assessment Sub-Committee
c/o The Monitoring Officer
Legal and Democratic Services
Shropshire County Council
The Shirehall
Abbey Foregate
Shrewsbury
SY2 6ND

Please note that the assessment sub-committee can only deal with complaints about the behaviour of a councillor. It will not deal with complaints about matters that are not covered by the Code of Conduct.

If you make a complaint to the assessment sub-committee it must be about why you think a councillor has not followed the Code. Examples of this include:

  • unlawfully discriminating against someone
  • failing to treat people with respect
  • bullying
  • using their position improperly, to their own or someone else’s advantage or disadvantage.

For more information about behaviour covered by the Code of Conduct please follow the Standards Board for England link.
