Weights and measures

Trading Standards inspect weighing and measuring equipment throughout Shropshire to ensure it is correct. We visit retail outlets such as shops, pubs, petrol filling stations and manufacturing and distribution outlets, including cattle markets. We also regularly test all public weighbridges in Shropshire to ensure their accuracy.

We also provide a list of public weighbridges within Shropshire, along with guidance notes for operators.

New and repaired equipment has to be tested to ensure it is accurate before it can be used for trade. If you are a business and require this service, please contact us to arrange an appointment.

We also provide a calibration and testing service for trade and industry to traceable National Standards and a product certification scheme.

In addition, you can hire up to three tonnes of metric hand weights from us to carry out your own testing.
