Shropshire Local Access Forum

The 20 members of the Shropshire Local Access Forum have a wide variety of backgrounds and varied interests including walking, cycling, horse riding, conservation and wildlife, as well as farming, rural business and disabled access interests. The role of the Forum is to advise the Council, Natural England and others, on how best to improve public access to the countryside for the purpose of open air recreation and enjoyment whilst talking into account the needs of land management and nature conservation.

The Forum meets several times a year where a wide variety of topics relating to recreational access are discussed. The meetings are open to the public and usually held at the Shirehall in Shrewsbury.

The next meeting will be held on 17th July 2009 at Craven Arms Community Centre, with subsequent meetings at the Shirehall on 20 October 2009, 4 February 2010 and 27 April 2010 all at 10.00am.

Vacancies on the Forum
We currently have two vacancies on the Forum and to enable us to maintain a reasonable balance between the interest groups, applications are sought from people with experience in one, or more, of the following areas;

• Owners or occupiers of land over which local rights of way exist
• Users of local rights of way and access land
• Any other interests relevant to the area which could include; nature or land conservation, heritage, health and well-being, tourism and active recreation, local community or minority interests
