Lyth Hill Countryside Site

Location: 1 mile south of Bayston Hill, East of the A49 as it heads south from Shrewsbury. Grid ref SJ 475070. For a map showing the location of the site click the link under 'Maps'.

Recreational Activities: Some easy and level walking but there are some steep and difficult paths, May be muddy.

Lyth Hill provides, arguably, some of the best panoramic views of the South Shropshire Hills; from The Wrekin in the East to Wenlock Edge in the South-east and the Stiperstones in the South-west. The site has areas of woodland, scrub, and open grassland providing a wildlife refuge on the outskirts of Shrewsbury.

Historically ropemaking was carried out on the site and the author Mary Webb, author of 'Precious Bane', is associated with the area.

A new family friendly route has been designed at the site and is available for download on this page.

Grazing
