Offa's Dyke National Trail

Offa’s Dyke National Trail
This is one of the prestigious National Trails that cover England and Wales. It is one of the two National Trails that follows man-made structures.
The National Trail runs for a distance of 285Km (177miles) following the English-Welsh border as it progresses from Chepstow on the Severn Estuary to Prestatyn on the North Wales Coast.
45Km (28miles) of the route passes through Shropshire. This is being split into 3 sections which enables users to experience the varied Shropshire Countryside.
Since 1999 Shropshire County Council, in collaboration with Natural England and the Offa’s Dyke Archaeological Management Officer, have been carrying out a programme of work to up-grade and re-furbish the Offa’s Dyke National Trail within the County.
This was a 5 year programme which successfully refurbished the route from end to end. Fortunately the funding for this work has continued and further improvements and maintenance are planned for 2007-08. The work undertaken so far has been quite varied but mainly comprising the replacement of ageing stiles and finger posts with some surfacing of the route.
The Offa's Dyke National Trail is marked on the Ordnance Survey Explorer maps 201 and 216 (South) and 240 (North).
