This is one of the prestigious national trails that cover England and Wales and is one of two national trails that follow man-made structures.
The Offa's Dyke National Trail runs for a distance of 285Km (177miles) following the English-Welsh border as it progresses from Chepstow on the Severn Estuary to Prestatyn on the north Wales coast. 45Km (28miles) of the route passes through Shropshire, and this is split into three sections, which enables users to experience the varied Shropshire Countryside.
Since 1999, Shropshire Council, in collaboration with Natural England and the Offa’s Dyke Path National Trail Officer, have been carrying out a programme of work to upgrade and refurbish the Offa’s Dyke Path National Trail within the county.
The work undertaken so far has been quite varied, but has mainly comprised the replacement of finger posts, stiles with gates and some surfacing of the route.
The Offa's Dyke National Trail is marked on the Ordnance Survey Explorer maps 201 and 216 (South) and 240 (North).
