Shropshire Council's Outdoor Recreation team realise that play is essential for children’s healthy development and well-being. The team is responsible for 36 play areas throughout the County which are all inspected visually on a daily basis. In addition to this all equipment is tested fortnightly for any maintenance requirements. Finally, an annual RoSPA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) inspection is carried out on all of our play areas to ensure that every piece of equipment meets current requirements and standards.
Over the next 2 years (from April 2009), play areas will see a boost in funding. Realising that play is such an important aspect of everyone’s lives, investment has been made by the Big Lottery and Department for Children, Families and Schools to improve opportunities for play.
Bridgnorth Community Play Store

Big Lottery play programme
Since 2006, District Councils had individually been offered £200,000 funding to provide increased play provision for their communities. Each District had allocated the money differently with some focusing on providing play areas and others focusing on providing play schemes. Many have mixed the two types and developed a 3 year programme that provides maximum play opportunities for their area's. For more information on the individual Big Lottery projects, please refer to the strategy documents on this page.
