Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 (CROW)
About the Forum
One of the new duties placed on local highway authorities by the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 was the establishment of an advisory body known as a ''Local Access Forum''.
The role of the Forum is to advise the Council, Natural England and other organisations, on how best to improve public access to the countryside for the purpose of open air recreation and enjoyment whilst talking into account the needs of land management and nature conservation.
This resulted in a joint forum being set up with the Borough of Telford & Wrekin in 2003.
The publication of new regulations in 2007 slightly changed the role and responsibility of the Forum and enabled the original joint Forum to change so that it now just covers Shropshire.
