Shop staff are celebrating achieving NVQs

A convenience store in Clun is celebrating after four employees completed Retail NVQ’s with Shropshire County Council’s County Training.

‘Clun Stores’ is a grocers and off-licence, for people residing in the town and for the many tourists that pass through Clun every year.

All four members of staff completed their National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ’s) in just under 6 months and are now reaping the benefits. Jane Thomas, Sally Huffer and Anna Smallman carried out the Level 2 NVQ in Retail, whilst Kath Tortoriello took on the Level 3 NVQ. Kath comments, “Completing the NVQ has been a fantastic achievement. I now have much more confidence in the tasks I carry out within my job role, which has resulted in our customers receiving a better service and experience when visiting the store than ever before.”

County Training delivered the NVQ’s at Clun Stores through funding allocated via the European Social Fund (ESF). ESF has been established to improve employment opportunities within the European Union, therefore helping to raise standards of living. It aims to equip people with better skills, hence increasing motivation and future job prospects.

Tony and Karen Burton, who both manage the store, strongly believe working with County Training and utilising the Retail NVQ Programme for their employees has made a hugely positive impact on the everyday running of their business, through building a more efficient and committed team.

County Training is dedicated to delivering NVQ’s throughout the whole of Shropshire, with the ability to meet a wide variety of training needs.”
