CoVE stands for Centre of Vocational Excellence; this status was awarded to Ludlow College and County Training in March 2005. County Training will be working closely with Ludlow College to implement a three-year development plan to improve the quality and raise the profile of care training in the Shropshire LSC area.

The Shropshire Health and Social Care Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) will focus on the following key objectives: -

  • to establish a consortium of providers for the delivery of Health and Social Care learning throughout Shropshire which will: -
  • raise and maintain skills and qualification levels of the workforce across all levels within the Health and Social Care Sector across Shropshire. The priority needs for the Shropshire workforce are characterised by: -
  • small and medium enterprises
  • part time staff
  • largely female
  • low skilled workforce

There is an identified skill shortage with 3% of Shropshire workforce being employed in this sector.

The impact of the CoVE will be to: -

  • provide an employer’s forum and steering group who have a collective voice to influence in the delivery of care training.
  • raise standards and increase participation at level 3
  • share expertise and good practice, standardise high quality learning experiences through all providers in Shropshire.
  • develop the overall needs of businesses to tackle the problems associated with low skill workers and staff shortages.
