Edge Hill University Open Evening - 7 May 2008

Wednesday 7 May 2008, Shirehall, Shrewsbury
4.00 – 6.30 pm (please note the earlier start time)

This termly event is an opportunity for potential students to find out more about the exciting programmes being delivered by Edge Hill University in Shropshire, many of which are currently recruiting for September 2007. The programmes include:

  • Foundation Degree - Early Years Education
  • Foundation Degree - Supporting Teaching & Learning (Primary) with progression route to Primary Education with QTS
  • Foundation Degree - Supporting Teaching & Learning (Secondary) with progression route to Secondary ICT with QTS
  • BA (Hons) with QTS in Primary Education & Children’s Development & Learning (4 years part-time).

The evening also provides an opportunity for teaching staff who are interested in finding out more about the accreditation opportunities to postgraduate certificate, postgraduate diploma and full Masters degree level. In the context of the initiative towards making teaching a Masters level profession, it has never been more important for teachers to consider their own postgraduate development. More information on the university’s MA Education programme is attached.

The university is also launching a new Foundation Degree in Professional Development, targeted at school support staff working in:

  • Science
  • Design and technology
  • Administration and business management
  • Pupil support.

It is hoped to get the first cohort starting on the programme in September 2008. A copy of a brochure can be accessed via the link. Programme leaders will be available at the open evening to answer any queries about this new programme.

Potential students can drop in any time between 4.00 and 6.30 pm to find out more about the programme, to chat informally with Edge Hill University staff and to register for the training.

Shropshire County Council is in a position to subsidise up to 80% of the costs of the training for the September 2008 Foundation Degree - Supporting Teaching & Learning programmes. This subsidy is only available to teaching assistants employed in Shropshire County Council maintained schools. Based on the current estimated costs over this 7 term programme, this subsidy is worth nearly £2,000 per student. Funding will also be available to subsidise the costs of the new Foundation Degree in Professional Development.
