History

What is happening in History....

  • as with most subjects the key focus is going to be on the implementation of the revised Key Stage 3 programme of study. Over the year we will be looking in detail at the implications and the range of responses that departments can make. Also we will be working with primary colleagues to introduce the best ideas from the review into primary practice
  • possible development agenda issues have been raised with the publication in July 2007 of the Ofsted report History in the Balance. General issues include assessment and progression across all key stages, and developing a curriculum that meets the needs of all pupils
  • we will continue to maintain the focus on developing engaging and challenging teaching and learning approaches for all pupils
  • continuing with the work that will allow teachers to respond appropriately to new national initiatives such as community cohesion and the continued focus on ECM.

Autumn Term 2008

The Basics for Quality History
An opportunity to visit the essential requirements to develop effective primary history. How do we build coherence and continuity? What about enquiry based learning?

The Local Environment - A Resource for Learning
This course will look at ways in which Key Stage 2 history and geography can be strengthened by using the local area as a resource for learning. It will look at practical ways in which children can learn about settlements, local environmental issues, environmental quality and physical features, such as rivers, through work based on and in the local area. It will also focus on understanding the development of the locality in key historical periods.
