Target audience

Those in their first year of employment as a teaching assistant.

Course content

This six day course is for newly appointed teaching assistants and those in their first year as a teaching assistant. It is designed to give delegates a thorough introduction to working as a teaching assistant in school. It will supply a wealth of knowledge, skills and strategies which will equip an effective teaching assistant to fulfil their role in school.

Intended outcomes

  • To have a working knowledge of schools and how they operate
  • To understand the role of the teaching assistant in school
  • To be better equipped to support pupils in literacy and numeracy lessons.

Programme

The six days of the course will cover: the role of the teaching assistant, Every Child Matters, supporting in English, supporting in mathematics, supporting in science,supporting in ICT inclusion, behaviour management and developing as a teaching assistant.
