Course content

Participants will establish clear guidelines as to how to deal effectively with a wide range of situations which may be realistically portrayed, so that 'safe' outcomes are achieved for all. Staff will also look at strategies to develop 'safe' practice with pupils, in these days of physical confrontation, litigation and allegations.

Intended outcomes

  • To establish clear guidelines for all staff to use, in potentially difficult situations
  • To consider the application of these guidelines in a wide variety of 'real life' situations including those brought by participants
  • To establish 'safe' practice for all, within the school setting

Five Outcomes: Be Healthy, Stay Safe, Make a Positive Contribution

Programme

The programme will include:

  • 'safe': what it means for everyone
  • safe practice in school
  • how/why do confrontational situations develop?
  • guidelines for dealing with 'tricky' situations
  • implementing the guidelines, using practical real examples.

Participants will have the opportunity to bring their own situations and ask 'what if...' as long as time permits.

Please note that this is NOT a 'restraint' course. These must be accredited and are available on a school-based training basis.

We aim to put finalised course programmes on the website two weeks ahead of the course date.
