- Ofsted criteria for teaching and learning
- appropriate use of ICT

Five Outcomes: Enjoy and Achieve
Programme
The emphasis is on practical approaches to teaching and learning which will engage both teacher and learner.
Day 1:
Strategies for planning and teaching Mathematics: to include questioning and mistakes, misunderstandings and misconceptions.
Approaches to calculation. Looking at progression: mental, to jottings, to written, including use of number line, grid multiplication and chunking.
Appropriate use of calculators: teaching strategies and activities.
Workshop: implementation in the classroom.
The sessions include activities and resources to take away, discussion and opportunities to view and share good practice.
Participants are asked to engage in a classroom based gap task.
Please bring your copy of the Framework for Teaching Mathematics.
Days 2, 3 and 4:
The days focus on algebra, proportional and geometrical reasoning and problem solving/using and applying Mathematics.
The days follow a similar pattern to day 1. Key features are:
Algebra as generalised arithmetic,
Responding to the significance of ratio and proportion (about 25% of the marks at GCSE),
Geometrical proof; for example, more than a demonstration that the angles on a straight line sum to 180.
Encouraging pupils to make links between topics and use and apply their Mathematics.
