Drugs

The Safer Shropshire Partnership and Shropshire Drug Action Team aim to reduce the harm caused by drug misuse and increase the numbers of people accessing treatment services through the criminal justice system.

Actions will consist of work to:

• provide drug education in schools
• deliver training for professionals
• improve access to drug treatment services
• develop a harm reduction strategy
• support service users and their families
• support housing projects providing services for drug users

Alcohol

Within Shropshire we will promote sensible drinking and reduce the harmful effects of alcohol misuse on the individual and the wider community.

Actions to reduce alcohol misuse problems will comprise:

• increased data collection and analysis to learn more about the impact of alcohol related problems in Shropshire
• public campaigns to promote sensible drinking
• education for young people about the consequences of alcohol misuse
• awareness raising work around alcohol and health issues such as teenage pregnancy and foetal alcohol syndrome
• support for enforcement by agencies such as the police and Trading Standards
